Josh Brecheen (R-OK) amendment #25 to the "Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2025" prohibits funding within the bill from being used for any diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) program or office. According to the sponsor, the amendment is necessary as the Department of the Interior has a DEI office and DEI officers "who train their staff on how to be racist toward White people". The sponsor also noted the National Endowment for the Arts has an equity officer, Nicole Phillips, whose "job is dedicated to advancing racism". Support is Republican Governors Association's position as taxpayer funds should not be utilized to push politized initiatives or for an entity that does not perform a core function of government. According to the sponsor, the Wilson Center is a "far-left organization dedicated, much like President Wilson, to far-left values around the world". The sponsor cited events where the Wilson Center "promoted ''safe abortion'' access around the world, claiming that denying abortion is violence" and Wilson Center articles "that suggested Europe should accept unfettered mass immigration, claiming that blocking illegal immigration is ''far right." On March 14, 2025, President Trump issued an executive order directing the Wilson Center to be eliminated "to the maximum extent consistent with applicable law".
